3. Electronic Journal (30%)

To engage with course texts and ideas, and to consider your gaze as a reader, you must think in/through writing. You must keep an electronic journal. You will compose at least ten journal entries (500-1000 words), about one each week, throughout the course. You should post your entries on our class website by Tuesday. I will use your ideas as I plan for Wednesday evenings.

4.
Analysis of Literature (30%)

This assignment requires that you critically analyze how a particular set of texts constructs or performs some aspect of cultural identity, idea, or theme.
You may decide on the form of the paper. You may compose a traditional paper, roughly 8- 12 pages, or take on a multi-genre project of equal intellectual challenge and rigor.

5. Curriculum Map or Unit Plan (30%)

Towards increased intercultural understanding and empathy, you will plan a course or unit of study integrating multicultural literature with writing and the arts. You may plan a unit for either elementary or secondary students, as long you apply course ideas and theories.
